Is palliative care a compulsory part of the course?

Yes

 

If yes, how many hours are timetabled?

18 hours of seminars/lectures at various stages of the course which are mandatory. (Not including communication skills sessions on Breaking Bad News, or teaching on bereavement)

One mandatory half day hospice placement.

All students during their final year GP placement identify an end of life patient and write a reflection on this, again this is mandatory, although time spent with the patient will vary between students.

Some students will spend time with palliative care services during other clinical placements or SSMs – again, time will vary.

Is palliative care examined in Finals exams or at other points in the course?
