OVERVIEW OF PROGRAMME

(attach any relevant documents)

Year 2

  • 2-hour symposium on loss (more sociological aspects of dying and bereavement)
  • 1-hour seminar on symptom control
  • 2-hour clinical teaching – focus on symptom control
  • 4-hour hospice visit – most students go to Trinity of St Christopher’s but those that are doing attachments further afield can organise locally

Year 4

We also run a series of SSCs – pain, ethics, anorexia / cachexia and a general SSC when students spend time with hospital team and at St Christopher’s or Trinity – this is the most popular

We run OSCE stations for the year 4 OSCE – we have a variety on symptom assessment and one of prescribing at the end of life (focus on anticipatory medications) and contribute questions to the end of year exam

Year 5

Again we contribute questions to the end of year exam but do not run a year 5 OSCE station
